Cabot Corporation Annouces Major Carbon Black Capacity Expansion in Brazil

Boston, MA and São Paulo, Brazil - (February 18, 2004) -- Cabot Brasil, a subsidiary of Cabot Corporation (NYSE:CBT), today announced its intention to build a new state-of-the-art carbon black unit at its facility in Mauá, São Paulo, Brazil. The expansion will increase installed capacity of the Brazilian facility to 120,000 metric tons (MT)/year. Start-up for the new unit is scheduled for late 2005.

Planning for the construction of this new unit, including the process to obtain necessary government and other approvals, is underway. When completed, this will be the third Cabot carbon black unit located at Mauá. The facility is ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 certified.
