|Cabot aerogel Collaboration Results in Innovative Building Material|
Enabled by Cabot's aerogel, Sto launches innovative composite insulation system
BOSTON, Nov 08, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cabot Corp.'s (NYSE: CBT) aerogel is featured in Sto AG Deutschland's new internal building insulation system.
The super slim system, called StoTherm In Aevero, comprises a composite board combining Cabot's aerogel particles for superior energy-savings performance with Sto's binder and composite technology, resulting in an insulation board that offers greater energy efficiency than traditional materials. Cabot's aerogel enables an ultra-low thermal conductivity of 0.016 W/mK (R9).
Sto's innovative binder technology and the system design afford permeability and moisture management, thereby managing humidity according to building requirements. The thin profile of the product allows improved insulation especially when interior space is at a premium.
"The growing importance of conserving energy, both from an environmental and cost perspective, requires us to develop products with superior thermal performance like Cabot aerogel," said Fred von Gottberg, Cabot vice president, New Business Segment. "The collaboration with Sto is another example of Cabot's dedication to creating technical partnerships that result in innovative products containing Cabot's aerogel products that significantly exceed the performance of traditional insulation materials."
Sto is a market leader in internal and external insulation systems for the building and construction market. Their innovation record as well as recent advancements in building materials with enhanced permeability and moisture management position them as an innovation leader in the current push for healthy and energy efficient walls and buildings with enhanced indoor air quality.
"The cooperation with Cabot during the development of the StoTherm In Aevero board product brought together Cabot's profound experience in all aspects of aerogel technology and Sto's formulation, design and testing experience in the area of construction insulation systems and components," said Andreas Weier, Sto vice president R&D. "Such cooperative approaches are our most promising chance to bring new and valuable solutions to our customers."
StoTherm In Aevero is available in 10 to 40mm thick panels. Visit the product website for more information http://www.sto-aevero.de/.
What is Cabot aerogel?
Sometimes called "frozen smoke," aerogel is the lightest and best insulating solid in the world. Cabot's aerogel is a hydrophobic aerogel produced as particles. Each particle consists of more than 90 percent air, contained in a structure that prevents heat transfer, for unmatched insulation performance. Cabot produces its aerogel products, including the Lumira(TM) aerogel and Enova(TM) aerogel brands in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located near Frankfurt, Germany where it began commercial production in 2003. Cabot certifies it has completed the EU REACH pre-registrations required for all Cabot aerogel products. For more information about Cabot aerogel please visit http://www.cabotaerogel.com.
