Cabot Corporation Elects New Officers

Boston, MA (March 31, 2003)—The Board of Directors of Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT) recently announced the election of the following individuals as new officers of the Company:

Eduardo E. Cordeiro, Corporate Controller, was elected Vice President. Mr. Cordeiro has been employed by Cabot for more than five years. He previously held the position of Director, Investor Relations before becoming Corporate Controller in 2002.

Yasuto Komatsu, President, Cabot Supermetals K.K. was elected Vice President. Mr. Komatsu was named President, Cabot Supermetals K.K.last year following Cabot's acquisition of Showa Cabot Supermetals K.K. He is well known in the capacitor industry as former president and a long time employee of tantalum producer Showa Cabot Supermetals K.K.

John M. Re, Director, Global Purchasing, was elected Vice President. Mr. Re has been with Cabot for more than 37 years. Mr. Re previously served as Director, Business Process Improvement Team (BPIT) initiative.

Janis O. Studer, Treasurer, was elected Vice President. Ms. Studer has been with Cabot for more than eight years. She previously held the position of Director, Business Development & Planning, Asia Pacific region.

The Board of Directors also announced the promotion of William J. Brady, Vice President and General Manager, Cabot Fumed Metal Oxides business, to Executive Vice President. Mr. Brady joined Cabot in 1986 and since then has held various senior management positions in both the U.S. and Japan.
