Cabot Corporation Expands its Range of Universal Masterbatch Products

March 14, 2016

New PLASBLAK® masterbatch  products feature excellent pigmentation and outstanding mechanical performance,  including European Union and U.S. Food and Drug Administration food contact  compliance

BOSTON -- Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT)  announces an expanded range of universal masterbatch products for the coloring  of a wide range of polymers with the launch of PLASBLAK® UN2015, PLASBLAK® UN2017 and PLASBLAK® UN2019 universal masterbatch products. Cabot's  portfolio now includes a new universal masterbatch product, PLASBLAK®UN2019,  that is compliant with the purity requirements of the European Union  (EU) and the U.S.  Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plastics food contact regulations.*

Cabot's product  portfolio addresses two current market trends. First is the requirement for  plastics to have a controlled, low level of impurities that ensures that they  are suitable for food contact applications. Cabot offers four products that  meet this requirement including PLASBLAK®UN2010, PLASBLAK® UN2015 and PLASBLAK®  UN2017 black masterbatches which each complies with EU food contact regulations.  In addition, the PLASBLAK® UN2019 black masterbatch also complies with U.S. FDA  regulations. Second, the portfolio meets the market demand for increased use of  recycled resins in non-food contact applications. Cabot offers three products  meeting this market need including PLASBLAK® UN2014, PLASBLAK® UN2016 and PLASBLAK®  UN6289 black masterbatches, which are cost-effective solutions that can be used  when compliance with EU plastics food contact regulations is not required.

Cabot's portfolio of universal  masterbatch products promotes high jetness and tinting strength at low  masterbatch addition rates. Furthermore, formulators can benefit from greater versatility  and rationalize material management through the use of a single masterbatch for  a wide range of polymer types including engineering plastic resins such  as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polyamide (PA) and plyoxymethylene  (POM).

"Converters of  plastic materials now have the opportunity to choose from our expanded  universal masterbatch portfolio that includes U.S. FDA and EU food contact compliant products,"  said Sebastian Heitkamp, marketing manager for EMEA – Specialty Compounds.  "These new products are a valuable addition to our broader portfolio and  further secure Cabot's position as the premier supplier of black masterbatch  around the globe."
