Cabot Corporation and ZirChrom Separations, Inc., Expand Sales, Marketing, and Technical Service Team

Boston MA and Anoka, MN (March 18, 2002) Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT) and ZirChrom Separations, Inc., announced today an expansion of their joint initiative for high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) columns. The companies announced key appointments designed to augment the sales, technical service, and marketing functions. Greg Gaudet, Director of Business Development, Cabot, named industry veterans Marc Cornelius as National Sales Manager; John Freeburg as Technical Sales Manager; and Janet Berus as National Accounts Manager.

Cornelius has more than 20 years of experience in the Chemical industry and was previously Director of Cabot's North American Industrial Products unit. Freeburg has more than 30 years of experience in selling chromatographic equipment for Agilent Technologies and is well known in the industry as a leader in the sales of new HPLC products. Berus has more than 20 years in chromatography technical sales. Prior to joining ZirChrom she was Eastern Sales Manager, US Instrumentation and Consumables, at Alltech Associates, Inc. She has also held senior sales and marketing positions at MAC-MOD Analytical, Inc.

Kelly Johnson, formerly with Beckman Coulter, Inc., has also joined the Cabot/ZirChrom team as Technical Support Specialist. Kelly adds depth and experience to assist customers in technical support and method development for all of ZirChrom's HPLC columns.

This expanded sales team will work closely with Peter W. Carr, Ph.D., President, ZirChrom, and the rest of the ZirChrom team to support the company's growing sales base and to enhance marketing and improve customer service for ZirChrom's line of HPLC products.

ZirChrom and Cabot manufacture and sell high efficiency, ultra-stable zirconia-based (under the trade name ZirChrom) and carbon-based (under the trade name DiamondBond) HPLC columns. These columns offer a broader range of selectivity, higher efficiency and unparalleled durability compared to other columns currently on the market.
